I have always been uncomfortable in my body. I’ve been overweight most of my life and not only did I dislike how I looked, I disliked how I felt. I hated how my body felt when I was hungry, full, hot, cold, waking up in the morning, falling asleep at night and even how I felt when I breathed. Not a day would go by without me experiencing discomfort in or about my body.

Finding my spirituality and learning how to actually “get out of my body” was the greatest thing ever. I found myself spending the majority of my time there. But something was still off, I wasn’t grounded. And I didn’t want to be! However to be totally connected spiritually requires being both grounded and out of your head (brain) at the same time. Such a dilemma!

My body was cumbersome and in the way. How was I going to combine both of these aspects and become the whole spiritual human I was supposed to be? Why, I asked myself, would any happy soul want to ever become human? Why would we do this? I couldn’t imagine ever making that burdensome decision myself but I obviously did! Because here I am on the planet and most certainly in a body!

One day something clicked. I realized that when we are at soul level and we decide to incarnate into this 3^rd dimension it IS for the meat suit. As souls we don’t get the opportunity to experience the physical and to use the five senses we inherit as a human. That is why we come. We come to enjoy the sensations of smelling puppy breath, tasting ice cream, feeling the warmth of the sun on our skin. To see babies being born (and yes even the pain of childbirth itself, and is it worth it? Absolutely!) To enjoy our bodies relaxing in hot tubs, drinking wine and even having sex! All of these functions and magical miracles we are able to have while in a body are the reason we are here! At soul level we are always happy, constantly giving and receiving unconditional love, and knowing that everything is beautiful and perfect in every way. I suppose that could get a little boring!

Now I am so grateful for my body. I have learned to have integrity for my body and to take better care of it. To cherish it exactly as it is, because no matter what, it is the perfect vessel for me this time around. I am appreciative when I stub my toe, smell burning popcorn or feel constricted by time and space. Because I know this is short lived. And when I return to the soul level I don’t want to regret missing out on a thing while I was here!

Does any of this sound familiar?

•         I am sick, have cancer or a disease
•         I don’t have good relationships with my friends or family
•         I can’t find a good boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse
•         I can’t get out of debt
•         I can’t find a satisfying job
•         I feel stuck

When things go wrong over and over in our lives we need to look at a couple very important things:  What am I doing to cause this? How can I stop it? Because the truth is that nothing shows up in our life unless we put it there. Everything happening TO us was created BY us. And it is created solely by our beliefs.

Everywhere you look it seems that people are saying “Just change your beliefs. Your beliefs are holding you back. Everything that happens to you happens because of your beliefs”. Ok, ok! We heard you! You make it sound so easy! But HOW do we do this?

We know that our beliefs are what keep us in this “holding pattern”, but maybe we aren’t sure exactly what they even are. They are so ingrained in our being that they aren’t obvious to us. We just live every day with them on auto pilot and which every thought and reaction we have is based. We need to call them out, one by one, and address them. So how do you uncover them? How do you know what they are when they are buried so deep?

Ask yourself these three questions. These questions will help you expose your beliefs so you can begin to make the choice to change them. I will use the first instance above as an example for each one, but if that is not your issue then substitute yours instead.

1) What am I more committed to?
Example:  Am I more committed to being healthy or being sick?
This is an easy one; however you may not like the answer. If you are sick then the answer is that you are more committed to being sick.

2) Why?
Example: Why am I more committed to being sick?
Is being sick easier than being well? Does it garner me the love and attention that I crave? Do I deserve to be sick? Has it become my identity and who I am?
That is where you will start to discover what beliefs are behind all this madness!  You will definitely spend the most time on this question because there will be many different beliefs that will arise to your awareness. Keep drilling down on these questions/answers until you can remember the first time you believed them, when they first became your truth. You may determine that these were made when you were so young you didn’t know any better, or that you had no choice at that time. But you do have a choice what to believe NOW. And just because you have believed these things all your life, that doesn’t mean you have to live one more minute still believing them. Reword them into more empowering beliefs and repeat these to yourself daily until it replaces the old belief. Example: I deserve to be sick could become I deserve to be healthy!

3) What would my life look like if this wasn’t happening?
Example: What would my life look like if I wasn’t sick? What if you had not a trace of disease of any form in your body? What would you be doing? How would you feel? How would your life be different than it is now?
See and actually feel every aspect. See how you look, what are you wearing? How is your hair styled? When you feel it, are you able to do activities that you aren’t able to do now? How does it feel to be doing these things?
Really put yourself there – use your imagination to see and feel every detail. Then ask yourself the first question again – what am I more committed to? Did the old commitment lose some of its power? Do you feel excited to change it? Can you keep the image of what your life would look like in your scope of vision daily? This will provide you with the control and authority you need in your life to make the changes needed to permanently change your belief(s) in this area and to completely change your life!

Maybe you have more than one issue mentioned above or perhaps some that weren’t even mentioned. I said maybe, but you know I’m kidding! We all have a few things that need some adjustment in our lives so we can live healthy, abundantly and happy! So go through these questions with each topic, maybe one a week, and see how your life changes for the better!

After all, we aren’t here to struggle, we are here to have everything we desire and live a life of joy! Doesn’t that just sound Divine? Oh yeah, it is!

We all have our own religious or spiritual beliefs. Who is right and who is wrong?
Good news! Everyone is right if it is true for them.

We are all here to have our own journey in this lifetime. We are here to learn and grow in ways we chose at our soul level before we incarnated. We need to be conscious of our beliefs and where they came from. Are they ours created from the life we’ve lived so far or did they come from outside influences?

I believe every spiritual belief is right if it meets the following criteria:

• ·         The beliefs resonate within you as truth
• ·         You KNOW this to be true
• ·         You don’t feel pressured or controlled
  
• ·         Your spirituality makes you smile and feel love
• ·         It teaches love
• ·         You feel these truths in every cell of your body
• ·         You do not surrender your own will
• ·         It is not ego based

If there is any fear involved with your beliefs then you believe what someone is programming into you. If something doesn’t feel right then you must explore deeper into it or other options to make it TOTALLY resonate and be true for you.

You aren’t here to “follow” like sheep. You are here to find your truth, your place of love and be around like minded people that will lift you up, not condemn you.

If someone makes you feel bad because you are going against your “religion” or “sinning” then you are not in the right place. You should always know that you are loved NO MATTER WHAT. You are not judged or cast away because you are bad or you did a bad thing. That is impossible. We are here as representatives of God/Source, as a part of God/Source, to understand the concept of unconditional love. Unconditional love for ourselves and others. Why would there be any fear or control or judgment around that? That makes absolutely no sense to me.

There is no separate heaven and hell. These are just time space realities that we live while here on earth. They are how we either imprison ourselves or allow ourselves to be free. We live there now. After death I believe that our souls go back and join Source/God – not play on clouds (although that could be entirely possible if you want to!) or burn in some horrible cave for all eternity.

Whatever you believe is the truth for you. If you belong to an organized religion AND you are 100% completely satisfied and happy with that, never feeling fear or doubt or being controlled by anyone other than yourself, than that is exactly where you should be. That is what you chose for this lifetime and that is your truth. However if you feel you need to fear God, not make mistakes, or fear death than you should probably seek out other forms of spirituality until one resonates with you 100%. You need to KNOW 100% in your heart that what you are practicing is the truth.

Your beliefs may just be the beliefs of other people – other influences, teachers, parents, etc. You need to know and make sure that they are 100% yours. That you believe it for you as truth not just because someone stands up before you and preaches it. They are no closer to God than you are. We are all God. No one is better than anyone else in that sense. I am as close and as much a part of God as a mass murderer. We just have different life paths this time around. But I truly believe that person is exactly as much a part of God as I am. Most organized religions teach that God is separate from us – that “he” is high in the heavens and far from our reach. I believe that God is omniscient and omnipresent and that there is no separation between us, God can be felt as a living presence in our own heart. We don’t need to look outside of ourselves or to someone else to connect to God.

Although I fully live my spiritual beliefs, and sometimes reference them when I conduct sessions and in teaching, I would never push my personal principles on anyone. I don’t try to change anyone’s beliefs as I believe they are all valid. If something I say resonates, than that is what needed to be said and heard. I will never influence anyone’s beliefs by condemning another faith. You are exactly who you are intended to be. We are all growing and changing and making choices every moment of every day. And those choices are only our own. They belong to only us and we have every right to all of them.

So here is my opinion on the differences between spirituality and religion:

Spirituality comes from within you. It is your truth, your beliefs.
Spirituality is free.
Spirituality embraces all beliefs as being valid and that underneath it all we all have the same goal.

Religion is generally controlled by an organization that pushes their beliefs on you and you must comply or be expelled.
Religion is controlling and restricted.
Religion involves dogma (opinions settled or fixed by an authority such as a Church.)   

If your religion provides you with the freedom, joy and happiness that fills you up then that is your spirituality. That is your essence of self. That is your soul expressing your truth.
Just make sure your soul is talking and not someone else. YOU are the authority. If it comes from within you and feels like love, you are right!

We were all taught the Golden Rule when we were young – Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Or translated “treat others as you would like others to treat you” or “do not treat people in a way you would not wish to be treated yourself”.

This is lovely, it teaches us compassion and empathy – something that we truly want the entire planet to live by. Yes it would be a peaceful world if we could convince everyone to live with this one rule. And I myself am very glad this was pounded into my brain when I was young. I think it has made me a generally nice person.

I believe there are a couple other rules that are just as important.  Here are my 2 other Golden Rules:

Golden Rule #2

Treat yourself as you would like others to treat you

That is easier said than done for most people. We are so hard on ourselves, if we could record our inner thoughts for an entire day you would see what I mean. This is such a sub-conscious act on our part that we don’t even realize we are doing it.

For the most part we beat ourselves up throughout the day, calling ourselves stupid or dumb or (fill in the blank) and simply believing that we are worthless because we didn’t do something 100% perfectly.

Most of us don’t need others to point out our mistakes (even though I don’t personally believe in mistakes) and we hate it when they do. So why do we constantly do this to ourselves?

What if every morning you looked in the mirror, into your own eyes, and told yourself how awesome you were? How beautiful, how worthy and how precious. Something like this “Good morning gorgeous! I’m so grateful to be looking at you right now – you deserve every great thing that happens to you today. You rock! I love you!” and then add a few more loving affirmations in during the day. Unconditionally L♥VE YOURSELF!

This can be difficult at first but it is so worth it! You are so worth it! As soon as you can master this you will be able to move on to the next Golden Rule with ease…

Golden Rule #3

Don’t allow others to treat you as you would not treat yourself

No one should treat you bad; you should never even allow that for one minute.

Walk away from them, end a friendship if need be. Disassociate yourself from them; they are not serving you or your highest good.

I have found that if I expect people to treat me with respect or honor then that is what I usually get. If I expect someone to be mean or disrespectful to me, then again, that is what I usually get. It isn’t too hard to understand, right? But you must first be treating yourself well.

Other people in our life only mirror our true inner selves. You usually get treated by other people exactly the same way you treat yourself. For example, if you believe you are not worthy of a loving relationship, then you will not find yourself in one. If you don’t take care of yourself, no one else will take care of you either.

You can only be loved by other people to the extent of how much you love yourself. And when you love yourself unconditionally, it lights you up – and people are drawn to you like moths to flame!

And if our energy is at a higher vibration, those that don’t treat us well will usually fall away without us even having to try. It is a win-win for everyone!

Now, go on…I believe you have a date with the mirror!
